1. Learning how to conduct background investigation and research including trial preparation and gathering criminal intelligence. This topic covers a variety of areas and is your prime knowledge requirement.

2. Knowing how to conduct proper surveillance and counter surveillance. Like conducting background investigations this covers a number of areas and is synonymous with the private investigation industry.

3. Learning the art of skip tracing and finding missing persons. If you think this is easy stuff think again. Finding missing persons requires utilizing the correct procedures; there are definite shortcuts you can take and you need to know these.

4. Know how to conduct both legal and business crime investigations. The latter has become a real problem and many private eyes are actually specializing in this one area. Again, there are special skills you'll need to learn and this segment is paramount to proper private eye training.

5. Learning to conduct online investigations. Working online is now second nature in many industries and private investigation has embraced the new technologies. Having some computer knowledge is a definite asset.

6. While you'll get plenty of theory with private eye training, there also needs to be a balanced addition of practical. A quality course will include this and better still, this will impress an employer when they see it on your resume.

7. While skills for private investigation are important so is knowing how to approach and apply to a prospective employer. This is a vital aspect of private eye training.
